Mutants presents a peak-time Scandinavian co-production...Competition between neighbouring countries is nothing new: be it the American ribbing of Canada; France and Italys debate of who has the best food or the Anglo/Scotch divide, the most famous examples have been going on for hundreds of years, if not millennia, deeply entrenched in their own historic legacies. Scandinavia is no different, between Norway, Denmark and Sweden the jokes, insults and rivalry are both as fierce and common as anywhere else. So, its with a sense of regional - not national - pride that Mutants presents this rare co-production between Swedens Mick Kastenholt and Denmarks Jay Adams.In spite of the resulting tracks title, their relationship could only be described as a true dance music fairytale, having first met at an Avicii concert in Denmark, which then continued in fitting, digital style on Skype. Jay and I had been communicating regularly since the Avicii gig, explains Mick,So when I came up with the original demo for No More Fairytales, which I knew needed that little something extra - particularly in the drop - he was the first person I thought about collaborating with.Mick sent me the parts / stems, continues Jay, He explained how he felt the drop wasnt quite there so I set about adding a slightly tougher vibe and exploring the arrangement and the track was eventually born!The resulting hybrid is a brilliant marriage of Micks trademark knack for big room riffs and melody and Jays renowned ability for basslines, hard-edged electro and programming. Look out for discussed break where a myriad of vocal snippets, FX and ascending scale combine to devastating effect. With further projects planned, lets hope this Scandinavian partnership is one that will establish a historic legacy all its own; after all, its pretty good start!
